Experience Leads Artemis Design Lab

Artemis brings over 25 years of experience across feasibility studies, site planning, design development, and construction. That depth means projects move forward with confidence — from early vision through the messy, real-world realities of building. Whether the work is across the street or across the country, the process stays grounded, clear, and engaged at every phase.

Our Design Philosophy

Good architecture doesn't come from a single point of view; it emerges through honest conversation and shared exploration. Artemis approaches every project with curiosity, care, and a genuine investment in getting it right for the people and places involved. Collaboration isn't just part of the process; it's what makes the work better. The result is architecture that's functional, thoughtful, and built to last.

PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT

Katie Harrigan is the founder of Artemis Design Lab, a Richmond-based architecture studio focused on thoughtful, community-driven design. Her work spans multifamily housing, historic adaptive reuse, mixed-use development, and site planning across the Southeast.

Katie approaches architecture with a deep respect for people and place. Rather than imposing a vision, she begins by listening—studying the land, observing how people move and gather, and responding to what already exists. This process leads to intuitive, enduring spaces that feel connected to their surroundings and support everyday life.

Before founding Artemis, Katie worked on a wide range of architectural projects throughout Virginia, Florida, and Alabama. She is a licensed architect in Virginia and Florida, and a member of NCARB and ULI. Based in Richmond, she has witnessed the city’s evolution firsthand, shaping her belief in steady, context-driven design that contributes to the life of a place.

Her work is grounded in stewardship—whether designing around existing landscapes or reimagining underused buildings, she creates architecture that strengthens community and respects its environment.

Outside of practice, Katie finds inspiration in travel, time outdoors, and exploring national parks—places where architecture and nature intersect, continuing to inform her approach to creating spaces that feel timeless and alive.
